A week ago the country of Haiti suffered a massive earthquake killing hundreds of thousands of people and leaving even more homeless.
We are safe in our homes in Colorado Springs, thousands of miles away. You may be having an urge to help the Haitian people in their desperate time.
I came across this, Shelter Box USA.
I thought we could have a "Hats for Haiti' Day to raise money to send a Shelter Box to Haiti. The cost to fill a box is $1,000. We could easily raise this money during 1 hat day. What do you think? Can we rise to the challenge???
I think that if everyone at our school was really dedicated and if they really wanted to help then of course we could do it! We have a lot of students at our school, and if everyone just gave a little, we could make a big difference! After seeing those videos in class today I really wanted to help,I mean, those poor people lost EVERYTHING! I know that if our school decides to help, I would defenetly give a little money myself. ReplyDeleteI definatly thick that we have the potential to raise $1000 but we will need a good turnout in order to do this. If the hat day turns outlike the one today, we won'teven get close. Maybe we should do a hat day one day and then something else another day!
ReplyDeleteI think that it would be difficult to raise $1000 just from a hat day. A lot of people forget about this type of thing in the morning rush. Also, some people don't even like hat days or hats. But, I am totally for getting one of these boxes to help those in Haiti.

I don't think we can raise 1,000 dollars from just one fundraiser, but I think we would be able to raise the money from a few more fundraisers. Some people just forget about the hat day or the anything goes day in the morning because there is always something to do and it is easy to forget. We will need more than one fundraiser to raise the 1,000 dollars.

YES! We can do this! Many of the 2008-2009 6 Burgundy student are on 7 Burgundy now. We collected LOTS of cans for care and share last year, so this will not be that difficult to do! Lots of people enjoy wearing hats to school, so a "Hats for Haiti" would be great! I know just which one I'll wear...

ReplyDeleteI think, like everyone else said, it is possible to raise enough $$$ for Haiti, we just need more than one fundraiser and more than one day. People easily forget, so we should have more than one fundraiser: such as a dance or raffle. We should also get other teams around the school to help: I heard that 6 Burgundy is also doing a fundraiser (bake sale) and will combine their earnings with ours. With other teams around the school, we should be able to have more than enough to buy a Shelter Box for the victims of Haiti
